This Japanese import CD contains the music from the original animated Moomins TV series that was produced in Poland by Film Polski and Jupiter Films in 1980 and aired in Poland, Austria and elsewhere.
Please note: this is not the music that was used for the UK version of the Moomins.
In the UK in the mid 80's it aired as heavily edited (the originals were 25 or 50 minute long unedited Polish versions) 5 minute long versions with narration by Richard Murdoch.
The Moomins were created by Finnish writer and artist Tove Jansson who made a living illustrating children's books. The first Moomin book was written during Finland's Winter War of 1939-1940. Jansson's idea was to create happy stories but felt traditional fairy stories were not appropriate for the time. Instead the hippo-like creatures (named Moomin, Snorkmaiden, Moominpappa, Moominmamma) replaced the beautiful princes and princesses.
